Art Final Questions

  1. Identify two works from this school year that you find to be the most successful examples of your creative development. Include image, title, and project for each.

2. Explain, using art vocabulary relevant to the project, why these works stand out to you. Also, articulate the development each work illustrates (ie the craft, formal and/or conceptual qualities that you honed in the making of the works).
Two works from this school year are Lemon-Lime in the Defy Ms. Seal project and Vineyard in the future tense project. I feel this work has been my best because I love using studio-lighting and felt that this picture really exemplifies my artistic values. For the Future Tense project I feel that this picture summarized how well I was able to capture my theme of lighting. These two pictures, I feel, really narrated my photography skills.

3. Identify your least successful work. What did you learn from the experience of making the work? What would you do differently knowing what you know now?

I felt my least successful work was the Kill your darlings Fibonacci project because I didn't really grasp the concept, and my pictures did not come out as strong as other projects. I learned to stick with what is my stronghold, and I would've taken advantage of better lighting in those situations.

4. What skills do you consider to be your greatest strengths?

I think my greatest strengths as a photographer are using digital photography over film photography. When I use digital photography I do a better job of having texture and use good lighting in all of my pictures. The composition in my photos are also stronger when I use digital cameras over film cameras.

5. Evaluate your overall effort in this class. (In what ways did you give it your all? Where could you have improved?

I felt that I used my time wisely in most of the classes. However, I could've improved on coming prepared more days, so I could've finished projects earlier. For the most part I did use class time to its full potential.

6. What are you most excited about pursuing in future artistic endeavors?

I'm excited about using all the things I learned in Photoshop to my advantage. In times of having to make a poster or do a particular project I would be able to use the things I learned in Photography to help me. I plan to definitely use my knowledge in all aspects of Photography.

7. How might skills you've developed in this class impact your learning and process beyond the art studio?

I feel I could really use the things I learned in Photography to benefit my future works in other classes. Having this experience has really taught me the values of taking good pictures with good composition and texture.

Defy Ms. Seal Photo Finals

In this project I really wanted to focus on the type of photography that I did well in. So, I decided to take pictures of fruit using studio lighting. The lighting really brought out the texture as well as the vibrant colors. I believe that this project showed that I can work really well with fruits and off-camera flashes/studio lighting

Future Tense Reflection Questions

What are your intentions behind the series of photographs in the book? What kind of experience are you looking to evoke from the "reader"?
- My intentions behind this series of photographs is to show paths leading to light. The experience I'm looking to evoke from the "reader" is to have people see different views, and understand how lighting affects my photographs.
What are formal commonalities that the images share (be specific. Explain how the composition or light or texture is repeated or evoked in multiple images)?
- Commonalities that my images share are the use of wineries, trees, and angles. The lighting is also very similar in all my photos due to the fact that my photos theme is leading through a path with light.
What advice do you have for someone who plans to embark on this project?
- I advice I would give to someone is to take a lot of picture, so you don't feel you have to work with what you have. Also, giving yourself enough time is crucial. When taking the photos, make sure you take a lot of different, compelling angles that make each individual photo standout.

Kill Your Darlings, Fibonacci- Reflection Questions

1. How did you develop your craft with this assignment?
In this project, I developed how to use Fibonacci's technique in using the human eye to get attention in my photos. I feel this craft will help me further expand my photography skills because I am able to understand where people will be looking in a picture.

2. What problems emerged? How did you solve these problems?
There were a few problems I encountered during this project. It was hard to take very detailed pictures, and it was hard to develop them in time. However, I was able to print a lot of prints in the short time I had. Adjusting to these problems made me more flexible, and really pushed me to use my time more wisely.

3. What ideas, feelings or meanings did you want your work to express? How did you go about expressing it?
I wanted my work to express mysteries, and represent untold stories that you had to critically think about. I expressed this by taking pictures of "for rent" houses that definitely show abandonment. Also, the flowers were displayed in a way that could show an untold story.

4. Write about one of the photos that you "killed". Was it a darling? What is intriguing about it?
One of the photos I killed was of a rose that was very artsy because it was mainly white, but it showed great contrast with the black stem. This was a darling, and it was very hard to kill, but somewhat necessary because it didn't quite go with the series.

5. Write about the photograph you chose for display in the library foyer. What makes it the right photograph for group display?
The photo I chose to be displayed in the library foyer was of a thorned stem, with contrast between black and white. It is the right photograph because all the other photographs were of photos that told stories, and I felt this thorned stem best represented a story.

6. Your peers gave you feedback on your photographs. Did their preferences mirror yours?
Surprisingly, my peers had very similar ideas to my photos as I did. I was expecting them to have different visions for which picture to choose, but as it turns out they ended up completely agreeing with which picture to use.

Stop Motion Reflection Questions

1. What is the narrative of your project? When is the moment of crisis?
The narrative to my project started with a man drinking a cup of coffee and reading a newspaper. Next, a superhero dressed in all blue appeared in the picture, shocking the man who was drinking coffee. After the blue superhero exited, a super villain dressed in all black came into the picture, and after he leaves the reader goes back to enjoying his comic. After that scene, the villain and superhero meet up at the Branson field and have an intense battle. The superhero get knocked to the ground, but recovers and knocks the villain out. After the battle scene, we go back to the man drinking coffee, with the comic at the scene where the superhero has defeated the villain making it parallel to real life. The moment of crisis was the battle scene.
2. How does the combination of imagery and music shape the mood and experience of the short film?
The combination of imagery and music explain the mood and experience by showing both a fun and intense music that goes along with the fight scene. The experience of the short film is both a realization of reality as well as parallel aspects of the fight scene.
3. What are the strengths of your project?
The strengths of my project were the focus of my photos, there weren't any blurry pictures. Also the ability to improvise the comic with iPad was very imaginative and worked to our advantage of the plot. I also thought the fight scene was very well executed.
4. If you were to do another one, what would you do differently?
The things I would do differently in the next video would be to not procrastinate on the pictures, as well as, a thought plot to what my partner and I were doing. Also, I struggled with FInal Cut Pro because it was difficult to structure my video into one cohesive group of photos.
